As of Monday a North Texas initiative known as the Texas Blue Chip program is now a statewide initiative.

The Texas Blue Chip program, modeled after a similar program from Arlington Police, was initially introduced after a gunman shot and killed eight innocent people at the Allen Premium Outlets on May 26, 2023.

Texas Blue Alerts are designed to speed up the apprehension of violent criminals who kill or seriously wound local, state, or federal law enforcement officers.

Blue alerts are one of several public safety alerts issued by the state when authorities need help finding someone.
