Bexar County judge proposes new specialty court amid domestic violence case spike this year

The Bexar County Judicial System is ready for accountability when it comes to their collective handling of family violence cases. That accountability has been demanded by the county and some of the judges themselves, with direction from the Collaborative Commission on Domestic Violence.

Bexar County officials on Wednesday will announce comprehensive initiatives to address the rising caseload of family violence cases in criminal and civil courts.

A domestic abuser with a previous family violence conviction in Bexar County was given five years probation and no jail time as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.

Making the community a safe place is what drives Bexar County Court 13 Judge Rosie Speedlin Gonzalez.

Authorities say the 25-year-old deputy has been issued termination paperwork.

A murder suspect was attacked and beaten in a Bexar County courtroom Friday by family members of the teen he’s accused of killing.
