I do about as much teaching in 'vacation' periods as in term time - for one thing there's graduate students who need support year round (many masters courses run over 12-15 months, not 9-10 months like undergraduate courses, PhD students don't stop work for weeks at a time, etc), and there are always marking deadlines through the vacation periods.
