Since organization is key, my three-week writing boot camp in preparation for the assessment focuses on dissecting the prompts and allowing students to generate ideas based on the structure of the prompts.

I used this activity as a writing camp with Virginia 8th graders to prepare for the direct writing portion of the SOL test. We opened the doc in Google Drive and completed the outline for each prompt. The students were able to get exposure to each possible prompt and generate ideas for each.
