The Vilas County Board of Supervisors has approved a resolution supporting a recall of circuit court judge Daniel Overbey. The 9-7 vote took place on Aug. 27. Overbey was elected in April, 2022, as the second circuit court judge for Vilas County in the newly established Branch 2.

Voters elect Circuit Court judges to serve six-year terms in nonpartisan elections. There is no term limit. Last year, Vilas County got permission from the state to add a second branch. Unofficial results show Daniel Overbey won the election with 56% of the votes. He was running against Meg O’Marro. Overbey will be the Branch II judge.

On an 18-2 vote, the Vilas County board last week rejected a resolution calling for support for a recall of Beth Soltow, the county’s circuit court clerk. The board also tabled another resolution to support a recall of Vilas County judge Daniel Overbey, who was elected in April 2022.

His investiture means Vilas County officially has two circuit court judges for the first time. Overbey was elected to the second judgeship position in April. He says the position is badly needed. “When we had one judge, we were rated for two judges, so judge Nielsen had been doing the work of two judges for 18 years,” Overbey explained.
