The Samudradevi Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy, situated in Central Province of Sri Lanka, the comes under the Wattegama Education Zone. It is located in a glorious environment in the beautiful Nawayalathanna village which is part of the Pathadumbara electorate. The longest river in the island flows in front of the school.

Samudradevi Balika Vidyalaya was started as St John's Mixes school with 14 pupils on May 5, 1915. [2] Initially it was a Christian Mission school and the first principal of the school was Rev. Fr. James Henry Wickramanayake. [3] In 1934, the mixes school was separated into Girls' and Boys' schools.

From the 1st of April 1965 it was approved to rename St. John’s Girls school as Samudradevi Balika Vidyalaya. Alone with the renaming the new school anthem was introduced which was written by Mr. Sri Chandrarathna Manawasinghe and composed by Mr. Sadananda Pattiarachhci.
