There will be no restrictions or closures from Friday, June 30 through July 4. The planned SR 89A closure for rock blasting and rockfall mitigation activity was postponed and will be rescheduled. Additional full closures and lane restrictions on SR 89A will be needed as this work continues on the SR 89A Oak Creek Canyon improvements projects.

SINGLE-LANE RESTRICTIONS. SR 89A will be narrowed to one lane only with alternating north- and southbound travel between the switchbacks and Oak Creek Vista (mileposts 387-390). The 24/7, around-the-clock restrictions will be in place through late August. A temporary traffic-signal will be in place to direct traffic through the work zone.

The restrictions are needed for drainage-and-sediment repair work in Oak Creek Canyon resulting from a rockfall event in March 2023. The short-term closure for Tuesday, Aug. 13 has been canceled. The short-term closures from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, and Friday, Aug. 16, remain in place from milepost 387 to 390.

A series of highway improvement projects which included rockfall mitigation in the area of the State Route 89A switchbacks in Oak Creek Canyon north of Sedona has been completed.
