Strength of schedule – The components here are similar to the team components. Because we’re measuring a team’s offensive and defensive ability, we can also assess its schedule in similar terms. The Pyth is derived from these components in the same way that is for a team rating. (This is also how I compute conference ratings.)

I define a team’s strength of schedule as the rating the would need to be expected to go .500 against their schedule. My inspiration for this idea comes from Kenpom, this is how he defines it in his basketball ratings.

Pomeroy’s website, KenPom.com, is a predictive measure using statistics such as offensive efficiency, defensive efficiency, and strength of schedule to generate a relative efficiency margin for all 351 NCAA Division I Men’s basketball teams.
