I’ve always wanted to try it and I was scared, but it really is as easy as it looks. Our ceilings are 9 ft tall so I grabbed 2 of the original Billy bookcases and 4 of the extensions packs.

Knowing we would be mounting a 10’ sliding library ladder to the top of the bookcase, I reinforced the top structure by making a rectangular box “crown” that was fastened to all available wall studs in order to give the ladder a solid foundation. This was later covered by a 1”x10” cabinet header and then trimmed out.
Check out the rolling library ladder. I have always wanted one of these but didn’t realize how expensive they were. I found this one on ebay and we got a great deal. The stain on the ladder is perfect with our new flooring and like I said it was the best price I have seen on any rolling ladder. Gman is enjoying it too!

So we got found some ideas and instructions on You Tube. Made the safety handles out of galvanised plumbing tubing painted black, and purchased the ladder hardware from Amazon.
