Last week (8 August) saw the initial release of this year's much-delayed HESA data covering student enrolments in the 2022/23 academic year. Overall the total number of international students was up 12.4% compared to the previous year (2021/22), while the number of new entrants was up 21.8% year-on-year.

HESA published their Statistical First Release for the 2021/22 academic year yesterday (January 19 th), giving data on students studying in the UK in that year. I’ve written up a short summary / analysis of the data below. The number of international students increased by +12% overall, reaching 679,970.

HESA has recently released initial data on the UK’s HE student enrolments in the 2023/24 academic year. Data on international students shows an overall 3.5% drop in international student enrolments, or a somewhat larger 6.7% drop in new international students.
