Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson has requested Ofqual to continue providing formulae and equation sheets for GCSE students in Maths, Physics, and Combined Science over the next three years. Since 2022, students have been provided with formulae and equation sheets for GCSE maths, GCSE physics and GCSE combined science exams.
GCSE Physics J249, J259 and GCSE Combined Science J250, J260. In the June 2025, 2026 and 2027 exams for GCSE Physics and GCSE Combined Science, students will be given a revised data/equation sheet as an insert in the question paper. The sheet will include all of the physics equations from the specification.
Formulae and equation sheets to continue for next three years 04 October 2024 The Department for Education has confirmed that students taking qualifications in GCSE maths, physics and combined science in 2025, 2026 and 2027 will not need to memorise formulae and equations. Instead, exam boards will be required to provide formulae and equation sheets in the exam halls.
She said students will “continue to be expected to understand and use these formulae and equations, maintaining high standards for what students must study”. “Therefore, I would like Ofqual to consider continuing arrangements that provide support to students in GCSE mathematics, physics and combined sciences exams in 2025, 2026 and 2027.”
This includes the GCSE maths November resit in each of those years. The Ofqual consultation on the proposal has now concluded and Ofqual have confirmed that students taking GCSE maths, physics and combined science exams in 2025, 2026 and 2027 will be provided with formulae and revised equation sheets in the form of an Exam Aid
It was decided that it "is not necessary for students taking exams in 2025, 2026 and 2027 to memorise all the formulae for GCSE mathematics or equations for GCSE physics and combined science". Students will be given a formulae sheet alongside each of the question papers in both the June and November exams taking place in 2025, 2026 and 2027.

As reported by BBC News, education secretary Bridget Phillipson calls for GCSE students to keep using formula sheets until 2027, continuing post-Covid exam support. The education secretary has said GCSE students should continue to be given formula and equation sheets to help in their exams. This year had been the final year students were expecting to receive that post-Covid support.
The education secretary has asked Ofqual to consider keeping formulae and equation sheets for GCSE students for the next three years. Bridget Phillipson has written to the Ofqual chief regulator Sir Ian Bauckham today to say that GCSE maths, physics and combined science students should not need to memorise formulae and equations in the 2025, 2026 and 2027 exams.
