For how we search, we go to our on-prem 2013 hybrid server's EAC->compliance management->in-place eDiscovery & hold. From there, I create a new search, name the search, specify "Search all mailboxes", choose "Filter based on criteria" and specify keywords/date range (1 month)/Email message type, then click finish.
