Microsoft Purview offers three eDiscovery tools that you can use to search for and export content found in different locations such as Exchange mailboxes, SharePoint and OneDrive for Business sites, Microsoft 365 Groups, Microsoft Teams, and Skype for Business conversations. eDiscovery (Standard) and eDiscovery (Premium) provide many additional features to help you manage your investigations.
If you want users to use any of the eDiscovery-related tools in the Microsoft Purview portal, you must assign the users the appropriate permissions. The easiest way to assign roles is to add the user the appropriate role group on the Role groups page in the Microsoft Purview portal. For step-by-step guidance, see Assign permissions in eDiscovery.

In order to work with eDiscovery we need the necessary permissions. Click on Permissions. In the "Compliance Center" category, click "Roles". Search for eDiscovery Manager and click on this Role Group. This will give you the details of this Role Group. Navigate down and you will see "eDiscovery Manager" and "eDiscovery Administrator".
