This is a list of colleges and universities that are members of Division I, the highest level of competition sponsored by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Currently, there are 364 institutions classified as Division I (including those in the process of transitioning from other divisions), making it the second largest division by school count in the NCAA. The remaining 99 Division I Subdivision schools do not sponsor football. In all other sports, Division I conferences and member schools compete for the same postseason opportunities. To be a Division I member, FBS schools must sponsor a minimum of 16 sports, and FCS and Division I Subdivision schools must sponsor a minimum of 14 sports.
