EFFLUENT SAMPLING TECHNIQUES At different times and for various reasons, it may be desirable to sample effluent from a wastewater treatment system. In order to be accurate, especially to determine system performance, any wastewater sampling must follow specific procedures and guidelines.

What is a composite sample? A composite sample, by contrast, consists of aliquots that are taken over an extended sampling period, normally 24 hours.
