It does fit right over the top beautifully. Here is a picture to show you how it fits over my baseboard. My existing baseboard is really narrow, not anywhere near as wide as the sample the manufacturer shows. It does fit right over the top beautifully. This shows how it fits next to the door frame. I think this is a genius product.
At least for the fitting over the top, you're going to end up with baseboards that are taller than your existing (to cover the old). If that's the case, then just buy normal taller-than-your-current baseboards and rip out the old ones and put the new ones in.
