Student Paper Checklist Use this checklist while writing your paper to make sure it is consistent with seventh edition APA Style. This checklist corresponds to the writing and formatting guidelines described in full in the Concise Guide to APA Style (7th ed.).
Use double-spacing throughout the paper, left align the text and indent the first line of each paragraph by one tab key (usually set to 0.5 in.). Paragraphs Text paragraphs should be indented 0.5in. (1.27cm) from the left. The tab key can be used for this or you can create automatic formatting in Microsoft Word (do not manually insert spaces). Note: this does not apply to the abstract.
If you are required to include an abstract, center the word Abstract on the second page in bold text. Begin the abstract on the next line without indenting. An abstract consists of one paragraph of 150-250 words. If you are required to include keywords, indent the first line after the abstract, write Keywords in italics, followed by a colon.

Note how each citation has a hanging indent. That means the first line goes all the way to the left and subsequent lines start .5 inches to the right. You can create a hanging indent by highlighting the citation, right clicking on the highlighted portion, choosing Paragraph, and then choosing Hanging Indent in the Spacing section.
