Some mesh clothing makers use an alpha auto-hide script in their creations. This script will automatically hide the parts of your mesh body that need to be hidden for that clothing item. When the clothing item is detached, the body will automatically show these parts again.

Making an alpha is really easy. But, when it comes to hands and feet, there's some caveats. Firstly, alphas don't work on nails (on Maitreya at least), and secondly, hands/arms are mirrored, i.e. you can only alpha neither or both at the same time (same with tattoos and skins and such).

For everybody who found this page in the search results, here is the solution that works with all clothes that use "Maitreya Alpha Auto-Hide V5.0.0.9". Wear the item to fix, set the alphas in the Lara hud to your liking, say in local chat: /95 part-of-itemname menu, in the menu choose Get Alpha, and then Finalize.

It's much better than the way we were doing it though and the alpha is often an improvement on what the clothing's auto-alpha did. Yes, an option to just turn off the auto-alpha in the body would be a godsend and mean we could keep the rest of the scripts in it. Finally, it is always worth asking the clothing creator to update to V5.

Thankfully Maitreya has given us a workaround for this issue. You can adjust the autohide alpha sections or remove the autohide entirely even on no mod products. When using the Maitreya Autohide script with my own outfits, to hide and restore my body alpha settings, I generally just include the script in a little prim that I save with my Outfit. Works like a charm, turning off the appropriate alphas when I wear the Outfit and turning them back on when I change outfits or detach it.
