In short, SATs scores are scaled and range from 80 as the lowest to 120 as the highest. With students getting one each for English reading, maths and English grammar, punctuation and spelling. In 2023, the average score for both English papers was 105 and for the maths paper it was 104, all of which was the same as 2022.

As KS2 tests are externally marked, scores are available for schools to view on the Primary Assessment Gateway. For the 2022 KS2 SATs, the marks required to achieve a scaled score of 100 (and therefore meet the ‘expected standard’) are:
The Tests • Key Stage 2 SATs take place nationally in the week commencing Monday 9th May 2022 – Thursday 12th May 2022.
In order to achieve the expected standard in reading, the pass mark had been set at 52-56% on the 2017-2019 tests (the 2016 test was a bit of an outlier with a pass mark of 42%.
The KS2 English SATs papers for 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2023 are available to download for free. This includes the reading texts, answer booklet and a marking scheme.
A scaled score of 100 means the pupil has met the expected standard. The tables show that children needed to get 26 marks out of 50 in the reading test in 2017 than in 2016 to reach the expected level, five more marks than in 2016. In maths, the pass mark has dropped three marks. It is 57 out of 110 this year - down from 60 out of 110 in 2016.
