The Mountain West and Pac-12 remain at a standstill over millions of dollars in exit fees and “poaching” fees that could decide the fate of both conferences.

So where do things stand with Pac-12 expansion now? Rumors have been floating for weeks ... Without one, the new-look league will fall apart before a resurgent Pac-12 is even a thing.

In combination, the developments have set the stage for upheaval across the landscape — not immediately, it seems, but perhaps at the end of the decade or in the early 2030s. The change could take the form of a super league or further expansion by the SEC and Big Ten that ripples across major college football.

The agreement suggests the rebuilt conference will prioritize exposure on linear networks for its long-term deal beginning in 2026.

Our hunch would be the conference heads into its next era, on July 1, 2026, with nine members: The two Pac-12 legacy schools; the five transplants from the Mountain West; Gonzaga, of course; and Texas State.
