Ahead of the 2025 Met Gala, whose theme centers around the Black dandy style, get to know Dapper Dan, Christopher John Rogers, and more Black menswear designers who embody the theme.

A dandy is someone who presents a captivating external fashion identity which supersedes any perception that could otherwise be interpreted as “less than.” It takes an embrace of one’s own charisma and confidence. A dandy amplifies the character they wish to present publicly so that they are seen as the finest in the room.

The exhibit will focus on the history and influence of the Black dandy in the Western world. The dress code for the event is “Tailored For You.” This marks the Met Gala’s first show devoted solely to men’s wear since “Bravehearts: Men in Skirts” in 2003, and the first ever to feature only designers of color.
